From a mother to a daughter on her second birthday!

From a mother to a daughter on her second birthday -

Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of life's longing for itself. They come through you, but not from you. And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you. You may house their bodies, but not souls. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The Archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness; for even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable

The Beginning

I still remember the day. It was our first wedding anniversary - 8th December, 2011. Both of us went to Ramakrishna Math, Ulsoor in the morning to seek blessings from Thakur Sri Ramakrishna. While returning home, we met Ananda Maharaj (Swami Paramsukhananda) in the kitchen. We touched his feet and he blessed us. He said, "What else can I tell you today. From husband and wife, may you become parents now!"

Perhaps 'sadhu vakya' has some power. After a month, during my first visit to the gynecologist, she calculated the day of conception as 8th December, 2011! Though Aparajita may have lived a number of lives before, but her journey with me started on our first anniversary with the blessings of Ananda Maharaj!

On my first month of pregnancy, I went to Kolkata for my cousin's wedding. I walked a lot, took lots of staircases but she was fine and kept me fit too. I knew she is strong! During my nine months of pregnancy, I had morning sickness only for 15 days. But I ate everything and had no problem with food. Later, after my daughter was born, I got to know from my gynecologist that I have some problem with my uterus which makes conceiving close to impossible and miscarriage a very common thing. But still, I had the most easy and comfortable pregnancy by God's grace! Aparajita she is - who made impossible the most possible thing in my life!

During my pregnancy, Ananda Maharaj made us listen to a wonderful lecture of his which says that the parents never own a child but acts like a trustee. The duty of parents are to take good care of the child as a precious treasure of God. This made the purpose or the journey of my motherhood more defined. I now know what I should do. Only thing is may God give me the strength and all of you bless me so that as an able trustee I am able to take good care of the precious treasure in all the best ways possible.
